Peter Catarino.

general manager, calgary marriott downtown

Prior to Peter’s current role as the General Manager of the Marriott Calgary Downtown, he spent the last 6 years as General Manager of the Delta Vancouver Downtown Suites. Within weeks of assuming his post at the Delta Vancouver, Peter joined the Vancouver Hotel Destination Association (VHDA) and was appointed to the DMF Management committee. From this vantage point, he was intimately involved in helping to steer strategies to increase visitation and business volumes to Vancouver. In October 2011, Peter was appointed to the Board of the Hotel Association of Vancouver (HAV). In June 2014, Peter was appointed as Chair HAV and has worked with industry partners such as the BC Hotel Association, Tourism Vancouver, and TIABC to further the agenda of its membership.

Peter is a seasoned hotelier with over 26 years of experience, most of which he spent in progressive leadership positions within the Delta brand.  This includes his previous position as General Manager of Delta Whistler Village Suites, where he oversaw the hotel’s operations during the 2010 Winter Olympics.  Peter started with Delta as an Assistant Front Office Manager at Delta Toronto East and assumed increasing responsibility that included opening the Residences at Delta Sun Peaks.  He was an active member of the Whistler Hotel Association as one of the founders and was Chair of the committee.   As Director of Operations for Delta Sun Peaks, a profile hotel in Sun Peaks, Peter directly engaged with Tourism Sun Peaks and subsequently with other tourism members of the Thompson Okanagan region of the province.

Peter holds a Bachelor of Hospitality Management from Vancouver Community College and finished the Strata Management Program at the Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia.  Peter is happy to join us in Calgary with his wife and two girls.
