Susanne’s hospitality career has taken her across departments, cities and countries, from her beginnings as a chef to her current leadership role in Calgary.
Originally from Germany, Susanne came to Canada on a work permit in 2004. She began working as a chef at the Muskoka Resort in Ontario, before joining the King Edward Hotel in Toronto as a cook in 2005.
While working in Toronto, Susanne continued to invest in her future. She studied hotel and restaurant management and business administration through International Career School Canada and participated in management training at the King Edward Hotel. It was through this training that she gained her first experience in housekeeping and discovered a new direction for her hospitality career.
In 2010, Susanne accepted her first supervisory position at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel. Three years later, she became assistant executive housekeeper at the Yorkville Royal Sonesta Hotel Toronto. She continued to advance in the field, becoming executive housekeeper at Seneca Residence Newnham in 2016.
Susanne’s career eventually brought her back to Germany, where she served as executive housekeeper at Capri by Fraser Leipzig in 2020. The following year, she returned to Canada and made Calgary home, joining Alt Hotel Calgary as executive housekeeper.
Since 2022, Susanne has served as executive housekeeper at The Westley Hotel, bringing years of international experience and a broad understanding of hotel operations to her role.
That same year, Susanne reached another meaningful milestone when she became a Canadian citizen. Nearly two decades after arriving in Canada on a work permit, she had built a life and a career defined by continual learning, professional growth and the willingness to embrace new opportunities.
Susanne’s story shows the many directions a career in hospitality can take. What began in the kitchen became a path to leadership, shaped by curiosity, hard work and the courage to pursue each new opportunity.
