Primary Objectives of the CHA

To Be a Membership-Based Organization

  1. To integrate and centralize the common political, economic, community and environmental interests and goals of the Members of the Association.
  2. To coordinate the efforts of the Members with other tourism industry participants which have similar interests in the development, sustainability and marketing of tourism in Calgary and surrounding region.
  3. To encourage the networking of Members and other tourism industry participants for the purposes of creating a consensus of political, economic and environmental interests and goals.
  4. To provide a co-operative setting to develop efficient methods of advertising and promoting Members’ goods and services.

To Be an Advocate for Its Members

  1. To be an advocate for the Members by lobbying for the interests of the Members and supporting the tourism industry in Calgary and surrounding region.
  2. To educate Members, governments and other tourism industry participants about the economic, social and environmental issues that affect tourism in Calgary and the surrounding region.
  3. To increase the profile of the Members in the tourism industry in Calgary and surrounding region.
  4. To establish relationships and maintain liaisons with government(s) and other tourism industry participants.

To Market Calgary as a Tourism Destination on Behalf of Its Members

  1. To market and promote Calgary and the surrounding region by establishing and operating a member-based financial contribution system whereby members, through a collection mechanism, provide funding directly to a Destination Marketing Fund managed by the Association or by a third party.
  2. In concert with other organizations interested in visitation to Calgary, to market and promote the Calgary Region as a tourism destination by:

          - partnering with destination marketing organizations and/or with other tourism industry participants with similar
            objectives and goals;
          - organizing and sponsoring special events;
          - working with various stakeholders with a shared interest in enhancing the experience of visitors to the Calgary
            region; and
          - retaining the services of third party marketing firms.
